Trade Journal Member Agreement
This agreement is between you and Anthony Lyle trading as Elliott Wave Insight ("EWI", "we", "us") and covers the EWI Trade Journal and the two ways of syncing your MetaTrader 5 (MT5) account to it. It sits alongside our Terms, Privacy Policy and Risk Disclaimer. If anything here conflicts with the Terms, this agreement applies to the Trade Journal.
1. What the Trade Journal does
The Trade Journal shows your MT5 trading history and performance on the EWI website, and lets you add notes, tags, strategies and chart images to your trades. You can sync your account in one of two ways:
- The Trade Journal EA. You run our Expert Advisor in your own MT5 terminal. It reads your account and sends the data to your journal.
- Investor password sync. You give us your account number, broker server and read-only investor password, and our sync service logs in to your account at regular intervals to read the same data. No EA is needed.
2. What we can and cannot do with your account
Both methods are read only. Neither can place, change or close a trade, move money or change any account setting. An MT5 investor password gives view-only access by design, so even our sync service cannot trade on your account.
We read: your account number, account name, broker and server, account type (demo or live), currency, leverage, balance, equity, margin and floating profit; your closed trades; your open positions; and your pending orders, including symbols, volumes, prices, stop loss and take profit levels, swaps, commissions, comments and magic numbers.
3. Your investor password
- Only ever give us your investor (read-only) password. Never give us your main trading password. If you enter a main password by mistake, change it in MT5 straight away and reconnect with your investor password.
- We store your investor password encrypted on our licence server. It is only decrypted so our sync service can log in to your account, it is never displayed on the website or in our admin tools, it is never written to logs, and it is never shared with anyone else.
- When you click Disconnect, your investor password is deleted. You can also stop our access at any time by changing your investor password in MT5.
4. Your authorisation and confirmations
By connecting an account with either method you confirm that:
- you own the MT5 account, or have the account holder's permission to connect it;
- you authorise EWI to access the account read only, as described above, until you disconnect it or remove the EA;
- connecting the account does not break your broker's or prop firm's rules. Some brokers and prop firms restrict third-party access or tools, and it is your responsibility to check.
5. How we use your trading data
- We use it only to run your Trade Journal and its features, such as statistics, charts, breakdowns and exports.
- Your journal is private. Other members cannot see it, and we do not publish, sell or share your trading data.
- EWI administrators may look at your journal data only where needed to give you support, fix a problem or meet a legal obligation.
- We keep your trading data until you clear your trade history or close your EWI account. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
6. Accuracy and availability
Your journal is built from the data your broker's MT5 server provides, and figures such as pips, R multiples and statistics are calculated by us. We work to keep them accurate but cannot guarantee it, and your broker statement is always the official record. Syncing can be delayed or interrupted, for example by maintenance, your broker, or a change to your password, and investor password sync runs at intervals rather than in real time.
7. Not financial advice
The Trade Journal is a record-keeping and self-review tool. Nothing in it is financial advice or a recommendation to trade. Trading carries a high risk of loss and you are responsible for your own trading decisions. See our Risk Disclaimer.
8. Disconnecting and deleting your data
- Investor password sync: click Disconnect on your Trade Journal page. We delete your investor password and stop syncing. Trades already in your journal stay until you clear them.
- The EA: remove it from your MT5 chart.
- Your journal data: use Clear My Trade History on your Trade Journal page to delete your trades, notes and attachments, or contact us.
9. Our responsibility to you
We provide the Trade Journal with reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for trading losses, for decisions you make based on your journal, or for any action your broker or prop firm takes about third-party access you chose to give. Nothing in this agreement limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
10. Changes to this agreement
We may update this agreement, for example when we add features or change how syncing works. If we make a material change, we will ask you to accept the new version before you next use the Trade Journal. If you do not accept it, you can disconnect and clear your data at any time.
